Ateneo won against La Salle! Score was 76-63. Great job by Ateneo, considering that 3 key players were injured and could not play - Tenorio, Membrere, and Bugia. Also, Villanueva was not able to deliver, not because he couldn't, but La Salle did everything to stop him. From the first quarter, it was obvious that La Salle's main assignment was to stop Villanueva at all costs. And they were successful. Good for Ateneo that the other players stepped up for the team. Everyone played well. La Salle, on the other hand, didn't play as well as they normally do, and their key players were not able to deliver. Mike Cortez, La Salle's go-to-guy in the recent games, was not the usual "Mr. 4th quarter", as the commentators called him.
It was indeed a sweet victory. Winning against the arch-rival, stopping them in their bid for a sweep, or as others said "their date with destiny", and making them work a bit harder for a place in the finals. Go Ateneo, I hope you'll continue to play well. If you continue playing that way, there's a big chance that we can become champions. One big fight!
