The environment... The Day After Tomorrow.
I don't think The Day After Tomorrow is a great movie but it's a very important movie nonetheless. It warns and reminds us that the things we're doing now have consequences, whether in the near or distant future. I posted about the cutting of trees along Katipunan once, and someone told me 'what's the difference, it's just a few trees'. Well, just add up all the "few trees" that have been cut in the whole country, and the world, and I am SO SURE that we'll be amazed at the numbers.
But in fairness, it's really hard to be continuously aware of the long term effects of our actions. During a discussion with our boss' wife, who used to work for an environmental NGO, it was brought up that in general, it's hard to get support for environmental projects. The main reason is that first, it requires a lifestyle change, and second, the effects are not seen right away. It's so much easier to donate to an orphanage 'cause you'll see your money go into clothes and food. Somehow, there's instant gratification. As opposed to going through a lifestyle change (the way we travel, the way we store things, handling of garbage, etc.), where the effects will only be seen decades, centuries from now.

Watching these senators and congressmen debate over the silliest things just makes me so ashamed and pissed off. The past few days truly reflect sorry state of politics in this country. Can you blame people if they're losing hope? We have to wait for another 6 years for another chance. Maybe even more than 6 years! Now that's a loooooooooong time.
One of my friends said that this is what the Filipinos wanted, and this is what we got. He even said if they want FPJ, then give them FPJ. I think it's so unfair to just say that because I DO NOT WANT THIS!!! Don't you tell me that I deserve this because I don't.
Honestly, as good as democracy is, I believe that it's not always what a country needs. Do you honestly think that democracy is working for the Philippines now? Or for the past two decades? The majority isn't always right - but how do we go around that? Another people power? It's so tiring already.
The one thing I could have done - that is, vote for the people I believe in - I wasn't able to do. Yes, I'm a statistic. I called up the TV stations to report it, because realistically that's the only thing I can do. But of course nothing happened.
Honestly, after the comedy and horror of May 11, do you still believe in this process of ours? With all of Comelec's stupidity? With all the cheating? Sometimes your vote won't even count because of dagdag-bawas, because of cheating. It seems that it's useless to go through this whole election process!
And don't you tell me to stop whining and do something about it. I work, I pay taxes, and in my own little way I do things that I feel can help society in general.
Damn I'm just so mad. Our country is in a sad, sad state. And what's worse, it's gonna be like this for the next N years! Excuse me for this, but... FUCK!!!

Raving...
Really happy that we're moving on with the preps, little by little. :)
And I am SO happy that Fantasia Barrino is the new Amercial Idol because she is really more deserving than Diana. I've always thought that she just has a high voice, and that's it. For me, having a high voice doesn't necessarily mean you're a great singer. If Diana doesn't sing songs with high notes, she comes across just as a regular singer.

I've been watching Starting Over on Entertainment Central (ETC) and I am really beginning to hate Nainza (or whatever the spelling is). I can't believe how Christine can be part of Naianza's group 'cause she's really nice.

Was FINALLY able to change the look and colors of my blog, thanks to the new templates of Blogger! I tweaked some stuff to accomodate the old content and to make my blog look a bit different from the others.

Shrek 2
Shrek 2 is really funny! I had a blast watching it with Jovan and Carlo (his brother). The characters, especially Puss in Boots, are so lovable! Lots of spoofs too, some which I didn't recognize until Jovan pointed them out. Alien? Spiderman? Yep! Imagine that. Spoofs, I think, are generally funny (remember Scary Movie?). But spoofs that are executed well are in a league of their own.
I really hope that there will be a Shrek 3.
Lesson learned though: never, ever, watch an animated movie during the first weekend. There are just too many, noisy kids! It was a bit distracting at times.

I am so totally loving Entertainment Central (ETC) on channel 20. SkyCable users, do check it out! Their shows are so interesting! It's a combination of the Lifestyle Channel (but up-to-date) and E! My favorite show is Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, which features the Fab 5. The Fab 5 is a group of 5 gay guys, each with his own specialty. Then they do a make-over for a straight guy, for different reasons. The guys are funny! Other interesting shows are Blind Date, The 5th Wheel, Starting Over, Meet My Folks, and Nip/Tuck.

The past few days have been bad, starting with the death of Jovan's grandmother. It doesn't help that it has been raining hard, I guess rain just really dampens the mood. And because of the rain yesterday, I'm not feeling well right now. Talk about the pits.
I attended the funeral of Jovan's grandmother yesterday, together with my mom and dad. I was happy that they joined me, without me telling them to. During the funeral, there was no drama, mainly because everyone was ready, for several years. Jovan would always say "anytime soon", and I think he has been saying this for the past 3 or 4 years.
See, I was supposed to write a long entry, but I don't have the energy to. Bummer.

Jovan's lola died last night. Jovan got a call from his dad in the afternoon because she got worse. She already had pneumonia, so he immediately went to Batangas. The family slowly assembled. I remember that Jovan texted me, saying that she was going to go soon, and they were all around her. And true enough, after a few minutes, he called, saying that she was gone.
I know that this is cliche, but I am sure she's in a better place, one where she will not have to suffer.
I hope you can pray for her. Her name, Francisca Puyo.

Saturday was such a bad day for me and Jovan. His lola is in the ICU so we really had to visit her. I dropped off my books for the PinoyExchange Book Club at Shaw Blvd., then we went straight to Batangas. We were in the Libis/C5 area at around 9:20AM.
We arrived in Batangas at around 12:50PM.
It was just a bad timing for us. Imagine combining all of these: summer vacation, the heat, payday, and fiestas! Everyone just wanted to get out of Manila! The 2 gasoline stations along the South Super-highway were FULL! There were so many cars and people buying food or drinks or whatever they needed for their 'getaway'. Some were even taking pictures!
We stayed in the hospital a little less than 2 hours. We couldn't really talk to Jovan's lola because she was having an asthma attack when we arrived. Minus the asthma, I think she looked relatively strong, for 97-year-old woman. She's bd-ridden though, because she slipped many years ago, but still, she looked strong to me. I just hope that she's not in so much pain anymore, and I hope she can go back home already.
Going home was as bad as going to Batangas. The fiestas didn't help at all. I didn't know that there are a lot of places here in the Philippines with San Isidro as the patron saint. It also took us around 4 hours to get home. Total of 8 hours on the road. Powered by two drive-thrus, one in Jollibee, and one in McDonald's. Going home, Jovan and I were both going nuts - we were actually singing the political jingles! But at least that made it more fun.

Hot, hot, hot!
No, I don't mean summer. (But yes it has been extremely hot lately!) I meant the movie, Troy. Too many hunks!
Honestly, studying the movie closely, I have a lot of issues with it. But I can't deny that until now, I am still in awe. I still think it's a great movie.

Issue #1
During the first part of the movie, I couldn't go past Brad Pitt the actor. I didn't see Achilles, I saw Brad Pitt. And, he was HOT! HOT! HOT! He only 'became' his character when his evil ways showed. I actually started to hate him. Well, the character. What's there to hate in Brad Pitt???? :D
In fairness, I think all the other actors got into their characters really well. I totally hated Agamemnon, and I totally loved King Priam (?). Hector was a hero in his time. Paris was a fool.
Issue #2
I was really distracted during the first part of the movie because there were so many cute, hot, guys in the movie, and they even looked cuter in the blue costumes (skirts, but I'm sure they're not called that...) Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom... But it's good that the story prevailed later on.
Issue #3
I felt that I ignored the supposedly 'big' scenes because I thought that they were done already in the past. It wasn't new, so I wasn't surprised. No more "awe" factor. The scenes of the ships arriving in Troy was very similar to Saving Private Ryan. And the big war scenes reminded me too much of Lord of the Rings. Heck even the musical score reminded me of LOTR, especially the woman chanting (chanting?). It didn't help at all the Orlando Bloom's character was an... ARCHER!!! (Was Paris an archer??? If yes, is that why they got Orland Bloom? If no, why did they have to make him an archer???) I could see Legolas, not Paris, when he was shooting those arrows! Another thing, the scene where the soldiers were emerging from the Trojan Horse was too MI'ish for me.
For me, the hero here is Hector (or Eric Bana!). He was such a good and noble man. He was a great leader of the army. He loved his wife, he loved his father, and he loved his country. And he's pogi! Ahahahahaha!
I loved it when the Trojans attacked the Greeks on the beach. First, it was raining burning arrows, which landed on the ground. Then, they pushed these big balls of rope (?) which burned as they passed the burning arrows. These big balls then landed on the Greeks and their tents and ships. That was awesome!
I am now inspired to research on Greek history and mythology again. Awesome story. I just think the first part was an overkill, when they drilled into our heads that Achilles wanted to be immortal. It was just a bit too much.
But, again, I loved the movie. It's a great movie that would have been greater if it was shown before Saving Private Ryan and Lord of the Rings. This isn't a DVD movie. It's meant to be watched in the theaters. Goooooo watch!!!!

Aching... muscles... but it actually feels good! I hope we can really play badminton regularly.

Anyone into yoga? It looks really interesting. If you have info of a place that has regular yoga here in Quezon City, lemme know!
ICE MONSTER!
I love Ice Monster! I always order Strawberry Ice. But when I crave for chocolate, I order the one with brownies. There's really something about the consistency of the ice. It's so much smoother than the ice in a regular halo-halo. We'd always crave for Ice Monster whenever we're in Makati. Thank God they have more branches now! There's one in Sta. Lu, and one at the Araneta Center (they place a LOT of toppings in this branch). I just fear that they're expanding too fast - a sign that it's another Zagu in the making. They should lower their prices, it's a bit pricey at P60-P80.

I went to Woosh Badminton along Quezon Ave with Jovan and some ABSi peeps. And we had a really good time! We were able to play two doubles games in an hour. It was a really good workout, and totally beats going to the gym. We're hoping to do it regularly, around twice a week.
I hope, ahem, Mads, that we can also play during weekends. :)
