Enchanted
(With spoilers...)
I haven't watched a movie in months so I went to ClicktheCity to check out the current movies. I chose Enchanted because of the very interesting premise of a straight-out-of-a-fairytale-book story that ends up in modern New York.
The beginning brings back childhood memories, as the story combines elements of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. Giselle, the story's lead character, has many animal friends, who sing and dance with her as she dreams of her prince. As she sings, Prince Edward hears her voice, looks for her, and ends up saving her from the troll. They fall in love, and plan to be married the next day. But the prince has an evil stepmother who doesn't want him to fall for any girl so she can remain queen. The day of the wedding, she turns herself into an old woman, who tells Giselle to make a wish in front of the wishing well. She pushes her into the well, and Giselle ends up in New York City. The evil queen chose New York City because "happily ever after" does not exist there. Or so she thinks.
The fairytale is exaggerated to show how perfect it is in fairytale land. The characters sing lovely songs, the animals can talk, and the couple lives happily ever after. Giselle actually brings this to New York - when she sings, the animals go to her and help her out with the chores, and the people in the park all join in the song and dance number.
Giselle learns about the "real world" through Robert and his daughter, Morgan. She learns about dating, and ends up falling in love with Robert. However, Prince Edward follows her to New York, together with Pip and Nathaniel. The queen got alarmed when Prince Edward found Giselle so she followed as well. All hell breaks loose, the queen is defeated, Robert's girlfriend Nancy ends up with Prince Edward, and Giselle ends up with Robert. And they all lived happily ever after. Of course! This is a fairytale!
Though predictable, the movie is very entertaining, especially if you take it as it is. It pokes fun at fairytales, and it's amusing to see Patrick Dempsey goofing around. Don't expect too much so that you'll enjoy it. :)

One shall stand, one shall fall... (With spoilers.)
If you haven't watched the movie, don't read this yet.
Guess what, I wasn't a Transformers fan. I never followed it, the only things I know about it was the song, Optimus Prime, Megatron, the Autobots and the Decepticons. I knew that they were robots that transformed, but that's about it. I didn't know about the story, I didn't know the names of the other robots. I watched the movie because of all the hype.
And boy, what a movie! IT WAS AWESOME! I still can't get over the fact that Michael Bay was able to make me CARE about a bunch of robots. Bumblebee almost made me cry THREE TIMES - when he was captured by the annoying Sector 7, when he lost his legs, and when he asked if he could stay with the boy. Optimus Prime was so fatherly, there were times I forgot he was a robot.
The movie had enough light and funny moments, emotional moments, and action scenes (maybe a bit too much). The mix was good, except that I felt the last part was TOO action-packed. I believe that the audience should be given some time to recover from too much action. The first part of the movie was just perfect for me, a dash of cutesy scenes (Bumblebee playing "Drive" and "Baby Come Back" - hilarious!) here, some funny moments there ("I love you Dad!" and the Autobots trying to hide), and just the right amount of action (Barricade going against Bumblebee).
I'm not a big fan of the raw type of cinematography used, but I didn't mind it at all with this movie. I guess it was necessary to make the movie 'human', as opposed to the cartoon version. It also helped bring out the hotness of Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel. THEY ARE SO HOT, it's ridiculous!
Shia LaBeouf - I still remember him in Even Stevens. He was perfect for the role of Sam. Believably funny, and with very expressive eyes, who would have thought he would be a hero? It makes us think that even if we are nobodies, we can still be important.
One thing though - the movie didn't showcase the Transformers that much, which is ironic because hey, it's entitled "Transformers", right? It was all about Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and Megatron. Because I wasn't a fan before, I didn't know the names of the other Autobots and Decepticons. And I still don't. I only remember Jazz.
There are rumors that the producers are already cooking up a sequel. Maybe in the next movie we'll get to know the other robots more. I can't wait!

I watched Spider-man 3 with Jovan in Eastwood yesterday. We really usually watch the big movies on the first day, if we can. It was... okay. Will post more about it after a week or so, when everybody has watched it already.

Stardust
I am so excited that one of my favorite books of all time has been turned into a movie! And what a great cast! Imagine, Michelle Pfiefer and Robert de Niro! I don't like Claire Danes though, but I guess you really can't have everything.

This. Is. An. Awesome. Movie.
I agreed to watch the movie grudgingly. I even said "I don't care about Sparta!" You see, I'm not into period and war movies. But I figured I was gonna be with friends so even if I'll hate the movie, it was okay. Well, that was what I thought. I was so wrong! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the movie!
After work, we went to Powerplant. We were a group of 8 - Jovan and I, Mads and JP, Fen and JT, Binky and Doc Hubby. I shopped a bit (It has been so long since I shopped in Dorothy Perkins so I bought a lot! GULP!), we ate at Oliver's, then watched the movie at 7:20PM.
The movie was one beautiful, fluid, painting. Yes, you read that right. It was like watching a painting come to life. Beautiful, beautiful cinematography. Great treatment of motion. Yes it was gory at times, but you get past it. Some of the fight scenes were actually beautiful. It's also pretty accurate, so by watching you get to brush up on your ancient history.
Please do try to watch it while it's being shown in the cinemas. This is a movie that should be watched in the moviehouse. The experience won't be the same if you watch it on DVD.

Music and Lyrics
I was finally able to watch the movie last night with Jovan, Sharon and Cathy. Nice movie! Well, it's the usual romantic comedy, but it was very entertaining. The start was hilarious, and the songs are very catchy. All in all, it was worth my money.
Speaking of music, and lyrics, I am loving the Grey's Anatomy soundtracks. I'm not much into the new hits right now. I stick to my old, reliable, favorite songs, so I don't know a lot of the new songs. But during our stay in Antulang, I listened to Sharon's iPod, and was pleasantly surprised at how good the new songs are.

A Good Year
I was hesitant to watch this movie because I heard it got a lot of bad reviews. But hey, any movie about France, I'd like to see. So after a long day walking around Mall of Asia, Mike, Jovan and I trooped back to Powerplant to watch A Good Year. Surprisingly, we all liked it! I guess it helped that there were some references to Lance Armstrong, whom we really admire.
The movie was good - I liked the cinematography, the choice of music, the story - but I felt that there was something wrong. After the movie, I concluded that it was Rusell Crowe. The whole movie, I saw Rusell Crowe the actor, not Max (the lead character). He was trying hard to be funny. It wasn't natural.
Nevertheless, it's a movie I would recommend to you guys. Not a waste of money (unlike Borat!!!) If you have time, I suggest that you see this movie. Very light, perfect for the holidays.

Mission Impossible 3
Watched it with Jovan, Mads, her friend JP, Mike O and Mike T in Shangrila on the first day of showing. The movie was okay, almost so-so, for me. Yes, I was entertained. I was squirming in my seat and getting tired from all the action scenes the whole time. But in terms of storyline, it was predictable (OF COURSE there IS a 'double twist' of some sort!) and in terms of action scenes, it was obvious that they put so much effort into it. I wasn't lost in the movie. I've always thought that a good movie should make me forget that I am watching a movie.
One of my favorite scenes was the Vatican scene. (Hmmm, just a thought, was Tom Cruise mocking the Church? Why choose the Vatican of all places?)
Anyway, won't post much since some people haven't watched the movie yet. Don't worry, this is just me. My other friends liked the movie. :)

Just Friends
WHAT. A. LOUSY. MOVIE. Not worth P120. Certainly not worth a pirated DVD either. Geez, we wasted our time watching that movie in Eastwood. I thought it was a normal romantic comedy but it was more of a slapstick movie, where the lead actor, Ryan Reynolds was trying so hard to be like Jim Carrey. It's sad, since he's a good-looking guy. Anyway, I won't waste more time writing a long post. I just had to rant a bit.

Batman Begins

I truly believe that this is the best Batman movie to date. The cinematography was consistent, the actor was perfect for the role, the treatment was not comical... It's an AWESOME movie!
I was lucky to have watched the movie last monday at Glorietta, during the Gentxt premiere. I was with Jovan, Lester, Mads, Sharon, and Vince. Sorta like a triple date, but not really. Loooooong story that I would rather not talk about. Let's just say it was over before it even started. Okay, so I'm rambling... Back to Batman.
Christian Bale was perfect for the role. Mostly because he's not widely known. The actors in the past movies were too popular so it was a bit hard to go beyond their names. Clooney was too suave, which Batman definitely isn't. Keaton was a bit comical, which Batman definitely isn't. Val Kilmer was just totally wrong, haha! Christian Bale adapted to the scenes - when he was in prison he was a lost soul searching for himself, when he was training you can feel the fire from within, when he was back in Gotham he was the typical rich bachelor, and when he was with Rachel you can see that he was in love.
It was refreshing to see Morgan Freeman in a somewhat subtle comical role (remember Bruce Almighty? haha!). Liam Neeson was great, but there were times when it was like deja vu - what is Quigon Jin doing in Batman? Katie Holmes did well, however, I couldn't get past her sweet image so she didn't come across as the tough assistant DA that Rachel was supposed to be. Michael Caine, on the other hand, was the perfect Alfred!
I love the fact that the treatment of the villain was not literal. You won't see a scarecrow walking around scaring the hell out of people. The scarecrow was actually just a mask, made ugly by the drugs forced into the victims. Love, love, love it.
It was a long movie, but I didn't notice it at all. The action scenes were great, carefully spread throughout the movie, so it doesn't tire the audience. I hate action movies that overdo it, where the audience isn't given a chance a rest and appreciate the scenes.
Awesome, awesome movie.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Was finally able to watch Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Jovan last night in Powerplant. There were so many people and we arrived late so we ended up on the first row. I was worried that I would get a headache because of our distance from the screen, but it turned out that worrying was useless - it wasn't that bad at all!
Since Mads and Lester have watched the movie already, I suggested that they go watch A Lot Like Love instead. Read my entry about it! Ehehe!
I loved the movie! It was very entertaining. The beginning and the end was unique. It was obvious that the stars had a blast filming the movie. Also (more importantly? haha!), Brad Pitt is such an eye candy! I never liked Angelina Jolie, more so after Brad and Jennifer broke up (yeah yeah, we're close - I WISH!), but she was perfect for the role. I even think that she's more suited to doing action scenes than Brad.

A Lot Like Love
Jovan and I had time to kill before the two parties we planned to attend last night. Our choices were Sin City and A Lot Like Love - we chose the latter because I wanted to watch something light. It was a great choice! I love the movie! For me, it wasn't the typical fee-good mushy romantic comedy. It was about friendship, it was about romance, it was about how friendship develops into romance, about the blurry line that separates one from the other, and it was about hope.
Plus, Ashton Kutcher is really beginning to grow on me - he's so cute!

Kung ano-ano...
National Treasure
Jovan enjoyed the movie so much. For me, it was okay. Typical adventure movie from Disney. The movie reminded me so much of Da Vinci Code though, minus the dark side of murder. The lead character is a guy who's a specialist in something, who has been doing what he has been doing all his life. There's a beautiful woman involved, who ends up working with the lead character. They go from one clue to another until they find what they're looking for. I dunno, it just reminded me so much of Da Vinci Code.
Work
Work is okay. I have a lot of work, but it's still nothing compared to what the others have here. I can't imagine how I'll feel when my workload is the same as everyone else's. Anyway, it's good that the people here are friendly. The only problem is that everyone is SOOOO busy that it's hard to ask questions. So even if they're very willing to help out, help doesn't come right away. I'm really okay with being left alone - but for now, I'm just careful 'cause I might do the wrong thing! But slowly, information is coming in, so I hope that I can work efficiently without asking a lot of questions really soon.
The Amazing Race
I missed the first two episodes! I actually watched two replays just to watch the first episode, and I got to watch the second half before the first half. And then I missed it again today. I love the old couple, but I highly doubt if they can last long. After 5 seasons, I have come to the conclusion that old people will never win TAR, because half of the challenges are physical! I hope I can be proven wrong soon - this season even!
Survivor
I'm still following Survivor - I make sure to ask Jovan to tape the morning episode every friday. I'm happy that the season is now a bit interesting, compared to the early episodes, which were unfortunately very BORING. Even if the outcome is predictable (a woman will DEFINITELY win this season), the episodes are now more interesting. I'm guessing that Chris isn't the next to go (argh! let him go!), but he will definitely not make it to the final 2. The power plays are coming really soon, and Ami should watch her back because she is the strongest player left - in all aspects, physically, mentally, socially... ALL ASPECTS! I used to like her, but now I'm not so sure. I'm not rooting for anyone anymore, but I'm still watching 'cause I want to know what's gonna happen next year.
I think I'm just blabbing - my brain is fried so I'm just typing and typing whatever comes to mind.
Note to self: remember to blog about "ang mga pinoy naman" - a conversation I had with my cousin Anton and Jovan.

I missed the first two episodes! I actually watched two replays just to watch the first episode, and I got to watch the second half before the first half. And then I missed it again today. I love the old couple, but I highly doubt if they can last long. After 5 seasons, I have come to the conclusion that old people will never win TAR, because half of the challenges are physical! I hope I can be proven wrong soon - this season even!
Survivor
I'm still following Survivor - I make sure to ask Jovan to tape the morning episode every friday. I'm happy that the season is now a bit interesting, compared to the early episodes, which were unfortunately very BORING. Even if the outcome is predictable (a woman will DEFINITELY win this season), the episodes are now more interesting. I'm guessing that Chris isn't the next to go (argh! let him go!), but he will definitely not make it to the final 2. The power plays are coming really soon, and Ami should watch her back because she is the strongest player left - in all aspects, physically, mentally, socially... ALL ASPECTS! I used to like her, but now I'm not so sure. I'm not rooting for anyone anymore, but I'm still watching 'cause I want to know what's gonna happen next year.
I think I'm just blabbing - my brain is fried so I'm just typing and typing whatever comes to mind.
Note to self: remember to blog about "ang mga pinoy naman" - a conversation I had with my cousin Anton and Jovan.

Manchurian Candidate
First thing that comes to mind: Meryl Streep was AMAZING! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Can't stress that enough. She did an excellent job in her role as the mother of the vice-presidential candidate. Denzel Washington was also brilliant as the captain of the squad that included the vice-presidential candidate when they were in Kuwait.
I have to admit though that there will be others who will not like the movie. It's not your usual movie, as it makes use of some techniques that others may not like. I love the use of close-ups. You will seldomly see two characters talking to each other in one shot. The characters almost always talk directly to the camera. This is actually tough, since all the 'acting' is concentrated on the face. Do try to watch it - it's a good movie. :)
After The Sunset
On a whim, Jovan and I decided to watch After The Sunset last saturday. The movie featured popular actors anyway, so we figured that it couldn't be that bad. Well, it wasn't bad, but it was nothing great either. Worth watching for the girls since the movie showcased Pierce Brosnan's 'hunkiness' (hehe) and worth watching for the boys since Salme Hayek was in bikinis half of the time. Woody Harrelson was hilarious. If you haven't watched it yet, wait for the DVD. :)

Latest Movies
First Daughter
Watched this yesterday with Jovan. Well, it's a nice movie, but I felt that I wasted P130.00 bucks - it's a movie that I would prefer watching on DVD. I like Katie Holmes, I like romantic comedies and feel-good movies, but this one's a bit 'off'. I believe that there were too many holes in the story (having this as a message: 'parents can manipulate their children' is a bit disturbing) and Katie Holmes wasn't believable as Samantha. I didn't see Sam, I saw Katie acting as Sam. But still, we enjoyed it, especially Jovan, since he has a huge crush on Katie. I wonder if Katie and Cris will be the next Jennifer and Brad? Sigh. :)
The Incredibles
This was a funny movie, ehehe. We enjoyed it a lot. I just felt that there were some really 'slow' parts, which shouldn't be the case in animated movies. Yes, it's a 'superhero' movie, but my favorite character isn't one of the superheroes. It's EDNA!!! She's hilarious!!! Can we have a part 2 where Edna is a major character, please? :)

Movieeeees!!!
Wimbledon
I used to follow all the grand slam tournaments of tennis, until Steffi (and then Pete) retired. So, even if I don't like (hate?) Kirsten Dunst, I was really excited to watch Wimbledon. The problem is, the distribution really sucked because Eastwood didn't show it. I was so happy that Greenbelt 3 still had it last Saturday.
Wimbledon is the usual romantic comedy so you should just take it as it is. Don't expect a lot. I did just that. And, I enjoyed it! During the matches, I felt as if I was watching an actual match. It helps also that Paul Bettany is one hot dude. I really can't explain why, but he just is.
I'm so used to the seats in Eastwood that I kinda felt uncomfortable in Greenbelt, ehehe. I can't wait to check out Shang's theaters. According to Mads, they're really nice.
Shark Tale
I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the movie. I really thought that it was just a so-so movie. But it was hilarious! Can't post much about it now 'cause I watched it a couple of weeks ago, but I remember that we were always laughing. The characters were also interesting and funny, especially the jellyfish.
Ladder 49
I wonder when I'll be in the mood to watch Ladder 49. I'm not in the mood to watch something heavy. To those who have watched it, is it good?

Imelda
Watched Imelda with Jovan, Bunny, and Gina last thursday at Greenbelt 3. I came out of the theater with so much pity for the woman. She wasn't portrayed as evil (as the past books written about her have done), but as a crazy woman.
On the technical side, I didn't think the documentary was great. The shots were so-so, the flow was weird, and the editing was so-so. The main attraction really was the subject, who is a very interesting person.
I still cannot get over the "binary-adam and eve-apple" explanation. Her beliefs are so weird!
If you haven't watched it, do try to. It's very informative, interesting, and there are even some parts that will give you a good laugh.

Spideyman
[With spoilers so if you haven't watched it, STAY AWAY! :p]
Yesterday afternoon, Mike messaged me and said that Spider-man 2 is better than the first installment. I wondered how that could happen. (You see, I'm not a big fan, but Jovan is so I had to watch during the first day.) We bought tickets 2 weeks ago for the 8:45PM showing 'cause we were there in Eastwood anyway, and they were already selling tickets. I watched with Jovan and my cousin, Anton.
Yes, it's way better than the first film. It made you think. And the plot was solid. There was a nice mix of drama, romance, action, and even humor. (The scenes with the girl plucking her violin singing "Spiderman, spiderman..." were hilarious.) The two negative points that I could think of are the effects, and the mush. For a big movie, the effects could have used some improvement. You know the scenes were Doc Ock holds people (MJ at one point)? It was obvious that the background isn't real, blue screen lang. And in my opinion, there was a wee bit too much mush. I'm not just talking about romance here, I'm talking about the moments with the aunt, with the uncle, with the best friend, etc. Everything else was okay. Surprisingly, I liked the movie!
Wedding Coordinator: Check!
Yey! We finally chose and booked Jody Liwanag of Events Experts as our wedding coordinator! We got "on the day" package. We met with her yesterday at Cibo in ABS. She was really early - our meeting was scheduled at 12:30PM but she was there at around 12:10PM. Buti na lang nandun na ako. Chika-chika muna, about where we are on the preps and about the suppliers we've chosen. She gave us some checklists and we gave her photocopies of our contracts. At the end of the meeting we gave her the downpayment. I'm so happy that there's progress with the preps!!!
Next: event stylist and music (choir and band)...
