Subject: 7AM-Carnapping
I share this to warn all.
My wife and the yaya were held up yesterday morning by two gunmen who carnapped the car in front of our house. After dropping my daughters in their school in STC-Q.C., my wife drove up to the gate of the house. The yaya went down to open the gate. They noticed a car pass by behind them and then back up. A man alighted and opened the door where the yaya went down. He entered the car and pulled out a gun. Told my wife to get out saying "baba,baba". When she opened her door another gunman was waiting to enter the car. She and the yaya immediately run into the house after closing the gates. Our car was carnapped at 7:00 in the morning.
Thank God they didn't take her along. I theorize a modus operandi where carnappers target female drivers in the morning. They target females because they know they won't fight back and its also the time when you're still relaxed and not yet fully alert.
Warn your wives who drive or other lady drivers to be just as careful in the morning as they are during the day and the evening.

I joined the PEx Book Club meeting a while ago at Figaro, Podium. We were fortunate that several writers and illustrators were able to attend, including Augie Rivera and Jason Moss.
Just last week I wanted to buy Adarna books for my neice. It was so nice to see filipino children's books, but I was sad 'cause people give more value to the imported books, especially Disney books. I asked our visitors about this a while ago, and they said that it's a sad fact that filipino children's lit isn't doing well in the country. First, we are not a reading society, and second, people really give priority to other things rather than their books. These include computer games, imported books, etc.
After the meeting, I promised myself that I will encourage the kids I'm close to read these books. The people behind filipino children's literature need support.

FRIDAY FIVE
1. How long have you had a weblog?
Since June. I was a convert because of Bunny. I thought it was just like an online diary, which I didn't want to have. But Bunny was able to convince me, since she said you can just write anything, like reviews and opinions on movies, books, etc. Since I'm used to doing that in PinoyExchange, and since I enjoy that, I got into blogging.
2. What was your first post about?

3. How many changes (name, location, etc.) of your weblog have there been, if more than one?
None yet. It's still "Caramba!", which is my username in PinoyExchange.
4. What CMS (content management system) do you use? Do you like it or do you want to try something else?
I use blogger. It's okay. I actually learned a bit of HTML because I fixed my template. Mwehehe. Blogrolling helps a lot with the links.
5. Do you read people who have both a journal and a weblog? Or do you prefer to read people who have all of their writing in one central place?
Hehehe I didn't know that these are different. Basta I read the blogs and sites of other people, okay na yun. ;)

ACT OF KINDNESS
Not sure if you noticed, but I have a new 'section' on the right column, entitled "Act of Kindness". I've watched "Pay It Forward" several times, but still, each time I watch, the movie moves me in ways that I cannot explain. Yet it also depresses me a bit because I am reminded that I am not "good" and "holy". I thought about this act of kindness thing several days ago, after seeing "Pay It Forward" again on HBO. Some people may think that if you want to do it, just do it! But it's not easy if you're not used to it. So I'll use my blog as a reminder. This will push me to do at least one random act of kindness a week. It will keep me going, and hopefully I'll get so used to it that it will be part of my system already. You know, something I'll do simply because it's a good thing, not for anything else. I invite you guys to do the act of kindess as well if you like. :)
I've toyed with the idea of starting something like "Pay It Forward", but I always stop myself, thinking that I can't do it and it's silly. I guess this weekly act of kindness is one way for me to gather the courage to push through with it. Wish me luck.

Would you read Saddam Hussein's novels?
Imagine, the kids in Iraq don't have a choice. Yup, check out the "Winners and Losers" section of Time Magazine, July 8 issue. Saddam Hussein's novels will be taught in Iraqi schools. I really don't know what the novel is about, but I can just imagine. We all know how evil this guy is. It's safe to assume that his novels include his evil ideas. He's pretty smart (if he's not he wouldn't be in power, right?) - he knows that it's best to start with the young ones. This move will actually have two good results (good for him, not for the world!) First, it will be easier for him to brainwash his people. And second, he's assured of sales.
I wonder why the Iraqi people voted for him? Do they really believe in him? Or they didn't have a choice?

FRIDAY FIVE!
1. Where were you born?
In a clinic in Quezon City (I forgot the name.), by Dra. Gregorio.
2. If you still live there, where would you rather move to? If you don't live there, do you want to move back? Why or why not?
Well, I live in Quezon City now, but I grew up in Binan Laguna. I don't *want* to move back just yet, although I'm not totally against it. I just got so used to living here in QC.
3. Where in the world do you feel the safest?
Anywhere as long as I'm with my mom and dad.
4. Do you feel you are well-traveled?
Not really. I've only been to two Asian countries, and I haven't gone to Europe yet. Only been to less than 6 states in the US too. So, no. I would like to travel more.
5. Where is the most interesting place you've been?
I think it would be Mt. Banahaw. It's just a beautiful, spiritual (not religious ha) place. The people there are so nice! And it's lovely to look at the sky at night, you'll see more stars. I'd love to go back.

How much of your life can you say is really yours?
This creativity seminar I'm a part of is really a great thing. I'm being told things that I've always known. But these things, I've forgotten, taken for granted, made to seem crazy due to norms and negativity. We were asked the question "How much of your life can you say is really yours?" during the session a while ago. At first glance it seems like a silly question, and I'm sure a lot of us will automatically answer "Of course my life is MINE!" But if you really think about it, if you go deeper, if you're honest with yourself, the answer could actually be depressing.
To understand the question, I looked at the opposite from two angles. Which part of my life isn't mine? First. The things I did as a result of the decisions of others. The things I did because they were obligations. The things I did to please other people. The things I did which were expected of me, by the government, by the Church, by school, etc. Second. I'm sure there were some things that I did which I really wanted, but just breezed through it. I didn't savor the moment. I didn't absorb it. It wasn't meaningful. Even if it was my decision, I can still say I ended up not 'owning' that part of my life. I'm more guilty of the second. I'm glad that my parents left me alone to decide on which course to choose, which school, etc. They didn't dictate to me anything regarding school and work. But I have to admit that I just breezed through some of the things I did, without really enjoying and learning from the experience.
Well, I just posted this for you guys to think about too. It's really nice to stop and think about things once in a while. I want to think of it as a blessing that I got, which I wish to pass on to you.
