Useless telephone numbers of Globe
I wanted to claim the celphone for the Loyalty Program of Globe today. I went to the Megamall branch twice, but there were only 3 models available so I just decided to go back some other time. The first time I went, I got to talk to a certain "Glenda", and she gave me the telephone number of the Megamall branch and told me to call to check for additional models.
This morning I visited the Globe website and checked the contact details of the Globe business centers. I got the phone numbers, from SM Fairview to Glorietta, so that I can call to ask. I had my mind set on visiting a Globe center today for the free celphone or discount, but I didn't want to waste my time going around Manila. Better to call first before I leave the house.
Of the 12 phone numbers listed, 4 were fax numbers, and 3 were "not yet in service". No one answered when I called the other 5 numbers. How useless!
I called Globe's customer service at 730-1000. (Another observation: they answer customer service calls from the celphones much faster than if the call is made from a landline. This happened LOTS of times.) The girl I talked to told me that the telephone numbers were only internal. They do not entertain calls from customers, and they encourage the customers to go to the business centers. Okay, fine. BUT first, they shouldn't have listed the phone numbers on the website then. Or they should have noted that no customer calls allowed. And second, I will visit a business center, in fact, I have visited the Megamall branch twice already. I just wanted to call first so that I will only go to the relevant business center, and not go around Metro Manila to all their business centers.
I hate it when websites are taken for granted. When they exist just for the sake of having a website. There are people who surf, you know. People who count on the info that is on the website. There are even websites with forms for you to fill up if you have inquiries, but then no one ever calls you or contacts you regarding your inquiry. Well, that's another story, wouldn't want to get into that right now.

Thought for the Day

After Eden
After Eden is a graphic novel by Arnold Arre. He is the talented artist behind the award-winning Mythology Class and Trip to Tagaytay. I only have one word for this work of his: brilliant.
After Eden is beautifully done. Both the visuals and the story are nothing less than excellent. Some people may think that the story is too "mushy", but I respectfully disagree. It just shows love as it is. But it's not just about love.
At the start, it tackles what you call the "quarter life crisis", which people in their mid-twenties go through, especially those in the corporate world, those who go through 'routines'. These people are not happy even if they are "successful". They feel that there is something missing in their lives. In this case, love.
It also tackles the "men versus women" issue. Blatantly with the characters Lea and Greg, and subtly with Cecile and Jon. Lea and Greg are always fighting the war of the genders. On the other hand, the differences between men and women are shown by the thoughts of Cecile and Jon. The way they narrated the events of night is really a subtle way of showing that men and women are indeed very much different from each other.
And of course it tackles LOVE. There are always people around a happy people who are cynical, who want to destroy the relationship of the couple. These people are envious because the couple is happy, and they're not. But there are also people who do what they can when the two people who are in love are hurting, to bring them back together. And if two people start believing other people instead of themselves, trouble begins. If two people give in to the cynicism around them, then it will seem that love goes away. But it will always be there, the couple just has to believe, and keep on believing.
I also like the idea of "clasping of the hands". In the novel, a fortune teller tells Cecile and Jon that the clasping of hands is the "god damn secret to all relationships". The fingers represent our good sides, and the gaps between them our shortcomings. When fingers bump together, or when good sides bump together, there's tension and conflict. But if the other person fills in the gap or fills in the shortcomings of the other, then there's harmony. And that's when the hands clasp each other.
Try to get a copy of this book. Great read. But if you're one of those cynical people who think that mushiness is crap and that love is overrated and being so in love is 'baduy', then this book is definitely not for you. I just hope that you will start believing soon. 'Cause whether you like it or not, everything After Eden says is true. That there is a paradise in this crazy world of ours. That love is really what makes the world go round.

Weekend - Wedding, Photography, and Accident
The weekend was... weird. Not a typical weekend for me.
I attended my cousin's wedding last Saturday. The wedding was in the Church in Tierra Pura, while the reception was in Fernwood Gardens along Tandang Sora avenue. The church was beautiful, and I can't find the words to describe Fernwood Gardens. The place was so nice! This may sound really 'baduy', but it was like paradise inside. The parking area needs a lot of improvement though.
I started being serious about photography last friday, so I thought that it would be great to take pictures during the wedding. I finished a roll of film - took a picture of the altar with the newlyweds kneeling down from the entrance of the Church, took a picture of one of the parrots in Fernwood, which was waving at the camera (no kidding!). I also took a picture of the falls... I can't wait until they get developed!
It was supposed to be a good day but it turned out to be a nightmare. Gino got into an accident on his way home. His friend was driving the vehicle, and he was on the passenger seat, and three of his friends were at the back. Vehicle was a Revo-type of vehicle, I'm just not sure what kind (Adventure? Crosswind? ??) I don't know the exact details, but I think they tried to avoid a truck and the vehicle turned over 3 times. It was a total wreck. It's good that nothing happened to Gino. One of his friends had a bleeding eye, one had a painful leg (they suspected fracture), and one had a painful back.
He texted me at around12:45AM, and told me that he would be home at 2:00AM. We were supposed to talk about the events of the day, because we didn't get to talk the whole day. The next time he called, he was already at the hospital. Life is really unpredictable. No matter how you plan everything, half of what happens to you you really can't control.
To those who are reading this entry of mine right now, where are you? Are you in the office? At home? I have a suggestion: call your loved ones now and tell them how much you love them. It doesn't matter where you are or what you're currently doing. Don't wait for "next time" or "later". There might not be one. Now is the best time.

Conversations with God
I just started on the book a few weeks ago. I am totally fascinated at the content! The book really opens you up to accept new ideas, truly life-changing. I just have a problem with the first part. The author keeps on saying that the book is actually his conversations with God. That's fine. If that's what he experienced, then that's good for him. I just have a problem with what he said afterwards - that God is talking to you (the reader) through the book/me. I think the reader should be the judge of that. It's up to the reader if he or she experiences God while reading the book. Experiencing God is something that's personal, it's not something that someone else imposes on you.
That aside, I'm looking forward to reading the whole book. I've only read a few pages - haven't had the time to read. I hope to really gain new insight and to know more about God. Truly. Not just by memorizing prayers and dogmas and reading scripture without really paying attention... This is a step by step process for me. And somehow, there's progress. :)
