Hmmmm the ePLDT ads were myDSL ads. My mistake. Very few left. The Katipunan lamp posts are now dominated by Nestle stuff.
Which makes me wonder. Who owns those lamp posts? Who gets paid when a streamer is displayed? How's the payment system? What's the duration? Is it per day, week or month?
Anyway, there are two new vertical streamers along Katipunan now. "Mag-Nestle almusal" and "NIDO child nutrition system". I really love the Nestle almusal ads. The products are easily seen - Nestle milk, Koko Krunch, Nescafe... And because a mom and a kid is used, I like the "have breakfast with your family" message as well. I think Katipunan is a good area for the streamers because it seems like a 'family' place, with all the villages around it. It's a very busy street especially in the morning.
I wonder how the different brands pay for the ads. How do they divide it?

UAAP COMING UP!
Wow, I can't believe that the UAAP is going to start tomorrow. I have tickets already, but I'm still deciding if I'm going to watch the opening ceremonies, or just go to the 4PM game between Ateneo and NU. I'm leaning towards the latter.
Major games will be played in Araneta, while other games will be played at Rizal (argh! far!) and Makati Coliseum.
To all UAAP fans out there, here's the schedule for this weekend, courtesy of University Belt:

I posted something today in the thread "tv ads, print ads, billboards - your hatest and greatest" after a very long time... It's a really interesting thread in PinoyExchange. We talk about the different ads - tv, radio, print, outdoor streamers, etc. Intelligent discussion indeed.

Have you guys seen the ePLDT vertical streamers on the lamp posts along Katipunan? They're terrible! The only thing I recognized was the small logo of ePLDT and that's it! I couldn't read the text, I didn't get the message. However, I recognized the ad because I've seen the print version. It seems that it was really a print ad that they copied for the vertical streamers. Parang tinamad na silang gumawa ng bagong creative brief! Of course print ads and outdoor streamers are different because of the distance, the people who see it, how people look at it, etc. For the streamer, there should be as little text as possible, and just one clear message. The size of the text, image and logo should also be adjusted.
solace, I do agree that Vivian (Vivienne?) Tan is GORGEOUS! She's my crush! She's so perfect for the Lux ad! People easily remember the ad because of the model. Was that her voice they used? It's also perfect because it sounds so sexy. I just wonder why they had to include those two models towards the end of the ad. I'm not saying they're ugly, pero parang pampasira lang sila. They should have focused on her.
abcxyz, for the "Masarap na simula" Nescafe ad, this is my guess. The message is "start your day right by drinking Nescafe". The message is pretty good, it's both for current users and non-users. It seems that they are changing the view on drinking coffee as something that's "routine" in the morning. Well, we're all guessing...
As for the new McDo ad, I totally didn't get it. What's it all about? What's the point? You know, having that Karen-Gina ad was both a blessing and curse for McDo. It was a blessing because it was such a hit, both with the people, and the award-giving bodies. But it's also a curse, because they cannot come up with something better or something that can at least keep up with it.

I emailed Mr. Jim Paredes to say hi. I told him about this blog. He was kind enough to reply and he thinks blogging is really cool. He invited me to the seminar which he gives regularly - I think he has given 9 seminars already. The seminar is entitled "Tapping the Creative Universe". The amount is pretty high, but it's really worth it, according to a friend who attended last year. I hope I'll be able to attend - it depends if I include it in my budget for this month. The next seminar (July) will be held in Loyola Heights. There'll be another one in August at Rockwell. I asked for the flyer so that I can find out about the details, and so that I can post it here in my blog.
I don't think this seminar is only for artists. It's for everyone. After all, we are all creative beings. I don't believe that artists are the only ones who are creative. They may be more creative than others, but that doesn't mean the others are not creative at all. And we need creativity in our daily lives, whether at work, school or at home. It adds the "ooommmppphhh" in our lives.

Through 6 two-hour sessions, the workshop will employ practical techniques developed by Jim Paredes plus those found in “The Artist’s Way” (by Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan). These have proven to be effective in dealing with blocked individuals in any profession or situation in life, most especially artists who find themselves in a creative rut. An added plus is Jim’s sharing of his enormous wealth of personal experience as an active multi-faceted artist of more than thirty years.
The sessions will extensively deal with issues of creativity through interactive exercises that will get to the core of the blockage and the introduction of new disciplines and practices for everyday use.

The reason for the large number of sessions (6) is to be able to give the participants the opportunities to apply the lessons to their everyday lives and progress in a guided manner until the practices are successfully instilled. *Jim Paredes is a successful practicing creative engaged in songwriting, record producing, arranging, and performing with the durable and talented APO Hiking Society. He is also a lecturer and has done work for various advertising campaigns. He recently became a published photographer and an author (Humming In My Universe-Random Takes on Everything and Between Blinks). He is currently teaching at the Ateneo De Manila Communication Arts Department.

TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
Gino and I talked on the phone last night (what's new?). And the topic of our conversation was past TV shows. It was fun talking about the different TV shows, especially because most of them were sitcoms.
I was surprised that we both liked "Ang Manok ni San Pedro"! That was such a hilarious TV show. Lito Pimentel was just the perfect probinsiyano, and Balot was the perfect probinsiyano dad. Kristine Garcia was still very pretty then, along with Nadia Montenegro. I remember that even my dad followed this show, because it was so funny! I didn't like it that much towards the end though.
I don't remember a lot about "Don Kamote de la Mancha". I just know that it starred Cachupoy. I still remember Joey and Son, and I still can't believe sometimes that the little boy there, Ian Veneracion, grew up to be, well, what he is right now. I think he was around 3 or 4 years old in the show. Then there was Love Me Doods, with Edu Manzano. I really followed that show because I was such an Ana Roces fan. Other shows include Eh Kasi Babae, Chicks to Chicks, Palibhasa Lalake, Ok Tol, Hapi House, Young Love Sweet Love, Champoy, UFO (Urbana Felisa and Others), Lunch Date, Katok mga Misis, FFT (I don't remember this that much but I knew Giselle Sanchez was part of it), Student Canteen, Iskul Bukol, TODAS, TVJ, 13 14 15, Okay Ka Fairy Ko, Maricel Live!, Loveli Ness, Oki Doki Doc, Vilma in Person, and GMA Supershow with all the big production numbers. Imagine Aga Muhlach in Hapi House, with Isabel Granada and Chuckie Dreyfuss. And imagine Vilma Santos being tossed around in her dance numbers. And Maricel Soriano singing "I am what I am", lip synch, in her show. I remember Ms. Tapia and Mang Temy of Iskul Bukol, and I can imagine that people still call them that until now. I liked Oki Doki Doc because it featured two people who are not part of a loveteam - Aga and Agot. That just meant that people watched the show, not to be 'kilig' and follow their favorite loveteam but because it was interesting. Okay Ka Fairy Ko is also memorable, hmmm? The two fairies were very pretty - Alice Dixon and Tweetie de Leon. And Charito Solis as fairy queen was perfect.
I wonder which shows now will have a lasting impact on people, that 10-20 years from now, people can still remember and talk about the actors and the story lines? I'm placing my bet on Home Along Da Riles (of course it has been there for how many years now). The sitcoms now are too much alike, I don't know how one can stand out if talked about 10-20 years from now. Kool Ka Lang is hilarious, with their weekly themes, but they're being copied by all the shows!
Do you guys think that if the That's Entertainment people had a big reunion, you know, with everyone there, it will be a hit? I think it will be, as long as it's just a TV special, it's promoted well, and all the "flag bearers" of each day will be there, if not live, then through a video footage. Looking back, it may seem really "jolog", but we have to admit that That's Entertainment was so big then. And I honestly liked it, because Kuya Germs really wanted these kids to succeed. They were really trained to be creative and to perform well through their weekly contests, which the Thursday group almost always wins.

JIM PAREDES
I was going through my books and I encountered Jim Paredes' book entitled "Between Blinks". I had the honor and the pleasure of meeting him and actually talking to him in one of the PEx Book Club meetings. He actually invited the club to his house for a discussion, and he even served some snacks. We met his wife, and even one of his daughters. Lovely family.

We didn't just talk about his book, we talked about everything under the sun. Everything from Jesus to Zen to Ateneo to APO to heaven, and even April Boy! Jim Paredes is a wise man, and I am very thankful that he tries to share his wisdom with a lot of people. We need more people like him, to make the world a better place. Though I do not agree with all of his entries in "Between Blinks", I appreciate all the wisdom it imparts. We live our lives everyday, and go through the motions. And there are times when we stop - stop to ponder, to appreciate the beauty of the world, and the people around us. Pay attention to them. In one blink of your eyes, you may miss seeing.
According to Neale Donald Walsch, author of Conversations with God, "Here are the world's great truths, in the language of the soul. Uplifting wisdom such as this is a treasure. Here is where God resides--Between Blinks. The words here are a gift for the heart. Thank you, Jim. In so many ways you continue to bring joy to the world."

Though I do not agree with all of his entries in "Between Blinks", I appreciate all the wisdom it imparts. We live our lives everyday, and go through the motions. And there are times when we stop - stop to ponder, to appreciate the beauty of the world, and the people around us. Pay attention to them. In one blink of your eyes, you may miss seeing.
According to Neale Donald Walsch, author of Conversations with God, "Here are the world's great truths, in the language of the soul. Uplifting wisdom such as this is a treasure. Here is where God resides--Between Blinks. The words here are a gift for the heart. Thank you, Jim. In so many ways you continue to bring joy to the world."

Think of a musician God, and all the moments and feelings that come and go become great movements expressing expansive themes in His orchestral scores - every sigh, tear, smile is a graceful note.
Think of a terpsichorean God and all actions on earth become a divine choreography as everything moves with power and grace upon some great, majestic stage.
And when all these dimensions play themselves out - the suffering, joys, ups and downs, highs and lows and all other moments in between - a gigantic master plan is revealed.
And the more we have a sense of this master plan, the more delightfully we can engage our daily living as eager artists apprenticing and co-creating in awe with the Greatest Master-Artist of All."

RAINY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN.
It has been raining really bad for the past few days. I haven't seen the sun since... Saturday? I used to LOVE the rainy days because there'd be no classes. And that's exactly what happened. No classes today, and tomorrow. But when you grow up, you realize so many things. When I was young, whenever I'd pray that there'd be no classes, I was indirectly praying that a family be displaced from their home. I didn't realize that then, but I do know that now. Typhoons don't only mean no classes, no work, getting wet, and getting sick. Typhoons mean families are being displaced, and people dying, while I'm safe at home, snuggled in bed. Yep, breaking news from Inq7: 'Gloria' death toll rises to 21; 20,000 displaced". And guess what? There's another typhoon coming. And now I'm sad, because more people will surely be affected.
